EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis yesterday said that the EU has started to make concessions to democracy due to the current economic crisis that it suffers. In reply to a question about President Gul's latest evaluations on the upcoming EU term presidency of Cyprus during his recent visit to London, Bagis said that he agreed with Gul in the sense that now we are facing a miserable political situation in Europe. Bagis added that Turkey mainly aimed to ensure the establishment of a common state on Cyprus prior to July in which the two sides are represented on the basis of political equality and that the mentioned state should undertake the EU term presidency. "If a comprehensive solution was found, the term presidency of Cyprus could be turned into an event to be celebrated for us," said Bagis. He added that the EU was one of the most comprehensive peace projects throughout the history of humanity, which is mainly supported by the nation's will and which should not be left by the EU.
