Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis attended a sahur event (pre-dawn meal before fasting) hosted by Kemal Akar, chairman of the Metal Goods Craftsmen's Industrial Site of Istanbul (IMES) over the weekend. Speaking at the event, Bagis said that Turkey's EU bid was a continental one, and that the EU would be globalized thanks to Turkey's membership. "Turkey will not only join the EU with its 75 million citizens, but also enable the EU to become a bridge, reaching out millions of different people and greater markets," Bagis noted.
