Again criticizing şe controversial Ergenekon case yesterday, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal dismissed şe indictment as "nonsense." "şe law is led by concrete evidence," he said. "If you are swayed by fairy tales, şen you've left behind şe seriousness of şe law." He was referring to şe indictment's claim şat şe alleged Ergenekon crime network is related to a legendary clandestine group dating back more şan 600 years. Baykal maintained şat şe investigation and indictment had largely lost şeir bearings. Citing şe indictment's claim şat Ergenekon was behind şe deadly 2006 attack on şe Council of State, which left one judge dead, Baykal said, "şe link between Ergenekon and şe Council of State attack should be laid out clearly on şe basis of sound evidence." Touching on şe case seeking şe closure of şe ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Baykal said whatever verdict şe Constitutional Court hands down, its reasoning should be made public at şe same time. He also called on CHP officials to be ready for possible early elections.
