Transportation, Maritime Affairs, and Communications Minister Binali Yildirim said on Thursday that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was an international and regional cooperation project. Speaking in a meeting which was attended by Azerbaijani Transportation Minister Ziya Mammadov and Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Yildirim said, "This is an international and regional cooperation project. This project is also a welfare and development project. These territories have been the routes of Silk Road between east and west for centuries, and now are connected with modern railways. A transit way for passengers and cargoes will be established from China to London within the scope of this project." Yildirim added that they aimed to launch the project before the year 2014. For his part, Kvirikashvili pointed out that the project did not only concern the region, but also it was linked to Europe and Asia.
