Border crossing into Turkey inch downward
Amid claims that the Syrian army has stationed snipers near the border to prevent or limit people crossing over into Turkey, the last two days were relatively quiet in the village of Guvecci in the border province of Hatay, where refugees fleeing a government crackdown in Syria have been pouring into Turkey in recent weeks. The number of Syrian refugees in Turkey fell to 11,122, said the Prime Minister' Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) yesterday, down from nearly 12,000 on Friday night and Saturday. Of those who entered Turkey on Friday and Saturday, 375 returned to Syria of their own volition, while 39 Syrians were taken in by Turkey, the AFAD said.
