Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag attended the 19th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Sunday. The summit is historically important, as it is chaired by Egypt's new President Mohamad Mursi, the first Egyptian leader to attend an African summit since 1995, when now-deposed leader Hosni Mubarak survived an assassination attempt en route to one in Addis Ababa. As part of the summit, Bozdag held a bilateral meeting with Mursi and conveyed his wishes of success for him. Speaking at the meeting, Mursi said that Turkey has always been an important country to Egypt and that it has always stood in solidarity with Egypt. As part of his trip to Africa, Bozdag also visited the Jamo elementary school in a region where Somali refugees live.
