Cicek's call for action in Syria

Speaking at a press conference, Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek said he was going to draft a letter to parliaments of some countries and international organizations to highlight the incidents in Syria and Egypt and urge action on those issues. Cicek referred to the chemical attack in Syria, saying that those who do not take immediate measures against that crime are encouraging such crimes. Cicek also called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities emanating from the UN law. Stating that parliaments could do much in ending the Syrian regime and the civil war and accelerating the pace of transition to democracy in Egypt, Cicek said, "As the Parliament speaker, I have decided to write a letter to parliaments and international parliamentary assemblies which will be sent in a week. I will stress the need for ending the bloodshed in Syria and for an urgent transition to democracy in Egypt." Cicek added that letters would be sent to the US, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Parliament speakers of the European Union and Council of Europe member states, president of the European Parliament, presidents of the parliamentary assemblies of regional organizations where Turkey is a member and organizations including OSCEPA, NATOPA, IPU and PUOICM.
