As part of his trip to the United States, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington yesterday. Two ministers held a joint press conference, during which they addressed some pressing foreign policy issues. Davutoglu and Kerry stressed their joint commitment to resolving the Syrian conflict. "As Turkey and the United States, we will do everything possible to stop the bloodshed and to make diplomacy possible in Geneva II," Davutoglu noted. Touching upon Iran, Davutoglu pointed out that Turkey did not want any state obtaining nuclear power and was in favor of peaceful access of nuclear technology, whereas Kerry underlined the important role Turkey played in helping to enforce the sanctions that have brought Iran to the negotiating table. Referring to Iraq, Davutoglu said, "My visit to Iraq last week was very successful in the sense of giving a clear message that Turkey will be doing everything possible to prevent sectarian tension in the region." Also in response to the question whether Turkey felt the US government sent mixed signals to Ankara during the Syrian crisis, Davutoglu said, "Since there is a sincere dialogue and consultation, there is no signal–mixed or not-mixed- between us."
