Davutoglu calls Gizem Dogan, victim of Oslo massacre, a "symbol of the conscience of humanity"
A Turkish-Norwegian teenager killed in last month's gun massacre on an island near Oslo is a symbol of the common conscience of all of humanity, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said yesterday at the girl's funeral. When the girl, Gizem Dogan, and her friends lost their lives in the recent inhuman attacks, they sent a vital message to humanity, Davutoglu said. "Even this funeral is a lesson, and from this day onward Gizem Dogan is the symbol of the common conscience of all of humanity," Davutoglu said at the funeral in Trondheim, Norway. Davutoglu said Dogan would come to people's minds whenever they speak about tolerance and multiculturalism and would symbolize the necessity to embrace one's neighbors regardless of their religion, language, race, or faith. Davutoglu also encouraged Turks living abroad to forge firmer ties of friendship with their neighbors and friends regardless of their backgrounds.
