Speaking at a press conference following the Friends of Syrian People conference in Istanbul over the weekend, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the international community would not allow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to "misuse another opportunity" and that current efforts aimed at ending the conflict there represented a last chance. "In the case of Bosnia, 250,000 people lost their lives in three years. In terms of Syria, the international community should not be late as in the case of Bosnia. We have to act decisively and without delay," Davutoglu said. Davutoglu added that the Arab League's plan should be put into practice and the UN's approach should be implemented immediately.
