Doctors to speak with patients in Kurdish language
Students receiving education at Dicle University's (DU) Medical Faculty in the south-eastern province of Diyarbakir will be able to choose Kurdish language as an elective course. A decision to introduce Kurdish language courses as an elective course was made by the executive boards of DU's medical and education faculties and approved by the university's senate, as the medical doctors who were appointed to the region could not properly communicate with local residents and patients and thus made a request for such language courses. Kurdish as an elective course will be offered at the DU as of the academic year of 2012-2013. Freshmen at the DU's medical faculty will be able to receive training in Kurdish language twice a week.
