Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, met with opposition leaders on Sunday to discuss measures to be taken after Syria shot down a Turkish military jet. Erdogan first met with main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. Speaking after the meeting, Kilicdaroglu called on the government to do what should be done within the boundaries of international law in the face of this "unacceptable attack." Furthermore, CHP deputy leader Faruk Logoglu said that Syria has to be cautious and nobody should forget that Turkish people act in unity and decisiveness in terms of protecting the nation's rights. Erdogan also held meetings with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli and Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) leader Selahattin Demirtas later on Sunday at the Office of the Prime Ministry. Following the meeting, BDP leader Demirtas suggested that Turkey should resort to diplomatic ways with regard to Syria, instead of retaliation. Speaking for his part, Bahceli considered the situation as a national issue, adding that his party is ready to provide full support in line with Turkey's national sensitivities and interests.
