Erdogan exploring legal action against claims in WikiLeaks documents
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that Turkey is looking into taking legal action against claims made by US diplomats against him in confidential documents released this week by online whistleblower WikiLeaks. Erdogan criticized the opposition for demanding that he address claims in the documents that he has Swiss bank accounts, saying, "I don't have a single cent in Switzerland. If you can prove that I do, I won't stay at my position or remain a deputy. But will you continue to occupy your seats?" He added, "You can't speak about increasing respect for Turkey in the world" while demanding that he disprove the allegations, and that his team is working on legal action at both the national and international levels. He said that although the US has apologized to Turkey about the documents, this is inadequate. Erdogan also said that if anyone has respect for their own country, they wouldn't be accusing its prime minister based on dubious accusations made by foreign diplomats.
