EU: "We trust all sides to find a solution to the swearing-in crisis"
The European Commission trusts all sides to find a solution to the swearing-in crisis at Parliament, said a Commission spokesperson yesterday. The European Commission is dealing with the issue "closely and has concerns about it," said Maja Kocijancic. "Turkey will have to be dealing with important issues in the near future, and all these issues require the involvement of all democratic forces." Parliament will be "at the focus of discussions and decisions related to Turkey's future," she added. The crisis began when two of Turkey's main opposition parties boycotted Parliament's swearing-in to protest a ban on jailed candidates who won seats in June's parliamentary elections.
