Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu: Billions of dollars needed
Speaking to Turkish reporters after a meeting of the Friends of Syria Group, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that a consensus has emerged on displaying a firm stand against war crimes committed with SCUD missiles, supporting the Syrian opposition and improving the self-defense capacity of Syrian people. Davutoglu questioned the legitimacy of firing SCUD missiles randomly from Damascus to Aleppo with the excuse of fight against terrorism and added that there was general consensus among the international community on urgent measures against SCUD missile attacks. In response to a question concerning his views on the US decision for aid, Davutoglu said, "We have reached a consensus on classifying the aids as general aids without categorizing them because Syrian people are seriously in need of aid. Actually everyone knows that more is needed, but what [US Secretary of State] John Kerry talks about does not include aid for refugees. Furthermore, all of the countries pledged to make contributions for refugees under UN. Syria currently needs and will need billions of dollars of humanitarian aid. We are talking about a country where the cities are completely in ruins. The political will is all that matters and I am certain that the international community will feel the need to provide Syria with more extensive aid."
