German FM Westerwelle visits Ankara

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle yesterday met with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. At a joint press conference afterwards, Westerwelle expressed support for Turkey 's European Union membership bid. Stating that Turkey can join the EU after it fulfils the Copenhagen criteria, he added, "There are debates over this issue in both Turkey and Germany ." He added, "The important thing is our signatures and what we have decided. First of all, Turkey 's EU membership would benefit Germany ."
