Gonul: "Izmir isn't a NATO base"

Turkey's air traffic control center in Izmir isn't a base, it is a decision-making mechanism, said Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul yesterday, adding, "Izmir isn't a NATO airbase and it never will be." Gonul also pointed to Turkey's actions in line with the arms embargo on Libya and NATO's decision on humanitarian aid there: "Our frigates are in the region, and a submarine has also been sent.
