Gul: ”Amid mideast upheaval, I urged Assad to press forward on reforms”
President Abdullah Gul said yesterday that after the revolution in Tunisia, he had called on Syrian President Bashar Assad to implement rapid reforms in his country. "The current situation shouldn't be turned into an impasse," Gul told reporters en route to Belgrade for a summit between Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Turkey. Syria should move faster towards reforms, he added. Gul also said yesterday that enmity in the Balkans should end and that cooperation should rule the region instead.
