President Abdullah Gul hosted governors of 81 provinces over a luncheon, which was also attended by Interior Minister Naim Sahin, Gendarmerie General Command Gen. Bekir Kalyoncu, and Commandant of the Turkish Coast Guard Command Rear Admiral Serdar Dulger, Deputy Interior Minister Osman Gunes and Director General of Security Mehmet Kiliclar at the Cankaya Presidential Palace yesterday. Speaking to governors prior to luncheon, Gul described the ‘differences' in Turkey as "wealth" of the country. "Each province of Turkey enjoys different traditions and culture, whereas some others incorporate different languages and beliefs. All of these are realities of Turkey," Gul said, requesting the governors to protect all of its citizens. "All of our citizens are principal citizens in our country. No one should feel strange, outcast or alone in his/her homeland. In other words, no one should feel as if being marginalized. While showing the greatness and authority of the state, you will be displaying its caring and embracing face as well. You are also responsible for strengthening all of our citizens' attachment and sense of belonging to the Turkish Republic," Gul said, adding that governors should be closely interested in industrial zones, as production and employment are important matters to Turkey.
