Gul wraps up his Iran visit
President Abdullah Gul visited yesterday historical sites in Tabriz, the last stop of his official visit to Iran. Gul began his talks in Tabriz by meeting with Ahmed Alireza Beigi, the governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan province, who hosted a luncheon in his honor. During his visit this week, Gul has also met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and Isfahan Governor Ali Reza Zaker Isfahani. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz, who co-chairs the Turkey-Iran Joint Economic Commission, also attended Gul's closed-door meetings. Gul was in Tehran as Ahmadinejad's guest. After meeting with Ahmadinejad on Monday, Gul said the two countries held detailed discussions on key issues of mutual interest and made important decisions. During a joint press conference afterwards, Ahmadinejad thanked Gul for Turkey's position on "Iran's nuclear rights." He added that Iran and Turkey are determined to strengthen both political and economic ties.
