Hawrami announces plans to initiate natural gas transfer to Turkey
Ashti Hawrami, Natural Resources Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, said that they planned to initiate natural gas transfer to Turkey in two years and prvide Turkey with 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the next decade. Hawrami delivered a speech on the sidelines of a meeting on the Oil and Gas Sector Opportunities in Iraq: UK-Turkey Partnership which was organized by the United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI), saying that they also plan to export some part of that portion to Europe. “Firstly, a small pipeline could be constructed to initiate natural gas sales to Turkey. Obviously, currently there are certain differences in Iraq, but it would be making negative remark to say that the central government makes things difficult. This would not be a constructive attitude, either,” Hawrami said. Hawrami added that even if they failed to reach an agreement with Baghdad, natural gas and oil sales to Turkey would continue.
