Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on the second day of his visit to Iraq. Bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed in the meeting which lasted almost an hour. Kilicdaroglu then attended a conference organized at the Iraqi Al Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies and made a presentation on Turkish- Iraqi relations. Stating that special attention is paid to Turkish-Iraqi relations, Kilicdaroglu said, “CHP is a social democratic party siding with peace, justice, stability and welfare in the world as well as the region. With this perspective, CHP wants to see Turkey in cooperation and solidarity with its neighbors on an equal and mutually understanding ground.” Touching on the situation in Syria, Kilicdaroglu said, “Terrorism threat fostering with the civil war in Syria has a negative effect on Iraq just like on Turkey. We are seriously concerned about this.” He also met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hosyar Zebani in the evening.
