Military service to be shortened as of new year

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc announced yesterday that a decree shortening the compulsory military service from 15 to 12 months was approved by the Cabinet and would go into effect as of January 1, 2014. With this new regulation, more than 70.000 soldiers will benefit from an early discharge upon completion of the 12-month military service.
