New BYEGM head Karakaya takes office

Murat Karakaya, a public administration expert from the Prime Ministry headquarters, yesterday assumed the helm of the Prime Ministry Directorate General of Press and Information (BYEGM), replacing acting Director General Salih Melek. Born in 1973 in the Black Sea province of Corum, Karakaya studied public administration at Ankara University's School of Political Science, and later got his master's degree in public administration from Indiana University in the US. He also got valuable experience at United Nations headquarters in New York. Prior to taking office as BYEGM head, Karakaya worked at various organizational levels of the Prime Ministry headquarters in Ankara. In a brief statement upon taking office, Karakaya said that with renewed excitement, he and his new BYEGM colleagues could do great things, pledging to put all his energies into his new position.
