Classified as an archaeological site by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Santa ruins are expected to receive an influx of tourists with a new road that will link the site to Black Sea coastal road. The 9-km road will allow access to the site in 50 minutes. There are ruins of 300 single storey houses, bridges, inns, churches and fountains in the Middle Age village, once populated by the Orthodox miners. Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew had visited the site last year after leading a service at the Sumela Monastery.
