President Gul in Saudi Arabia

Pesident Abdullah Gul was in Jeddah on Sunday for talks with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah. President Gul’s visit to Jeddah comes after US President Obama reached out to the leaders of Britain and Saudi Arabia on Saturday to build consensus for an end to the violent crackdown by Syria’s government. President Gul arrived in Jeddah early on Saturday morning in order to attend a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Oxford Center of Islamic Studies in Jeddah later in the day. Gul hold a bilateral meeting with Saudi King Abdullah on Sunday. The President’s visit coincided with the release of a statement by the White House concerning US President Barack Obama’s talks with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the UK on Saturday when all three called for an immediate end to the crackdown on protesters in Syria.
