Presenting a report on NATO's activities to journalists, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that they have started the year 2013 with a strong signal of solidarity with Turkey. Reiterating that NATO responded to Turkey's demand in December and started to deploy Patriot missile batteries on the south-eastern border of the country to protect and defend more than 3.5 million people, Rasmussen said that the situation showed NATO's firm devotion to the alliance. The mentioned NATO report underlines that six missile batteries deployed by Germany, the Netherlands and the US had only defense purposes not to be used to support any attack.
