Rasmussen says not to trust reports without specific attributions
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen yesterday said that Syria's downing a Turkish military plane without making any warning was against all international norms, and it was unacceptable. Speaking at a press conference, Rasmussen avoided direct answers to questions about whether the Turkish jet was gunned down in Syrian or international waters, saying that reports without specific attributions should not be trusted. Answering a question on The Wall Street Journal’s story which claims that a Turkish military plane which was shot down by Syria last week on Friday was hit in Syrian airspace, Rasmussen said they did not comment on the content of the NATO meetings as a matter of principle. "NATO members, which gathered upon a call by Turkey last week, strongly condemned Syria and extended full support to Turkey," Rasmussen said, adding that they expect Turkey to give new information to NATO about Syria issue within this week. Rasmussen also said that NATO did not have any intention to stage a military intervention in Syria because it thought political solution would be enough.
