Reforms to be implemented in maritime transportation
The Turkish government has focused on maritime transport in line with its objective to turn Turkey into a global crossroads. As part of its plans to move the share of land transportation to maritime, Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication is preparing a new strategy for trucks, trailers transported by Ro-Ro ships and also for the vehicle transport system known as car carriers. The new strategy aims to exceed the quotas implemented by certain countries especially by Austria, foreseeing to create a worldwide vehicle transport brand. Within the framework of the ministry's "2013 Draft Performance Management Program," important steps are to be taken. The ministry is planning to increase the number of trucks and trailers transported by Ro-Ro ships to 450,000 by 2013, which was equal to 330,000 in 2008.
