Renowned turkish artist passes away

Painter Burhan Dogancay, one of the leading names of contemporary art in Turkey, died on Wednesday at the age of 84. Dogancay is best known for a body of work entitled "Urban Walls" in which he exhibit his perspective on contemporary society. Dogancay has become Turkey's most expensive living artist, after his "Symphony in Blue" was sold in an auction for TL 2.2 million. "Turkey has lost an important figure," said Turkish President Abdullah Gul, adding that he will be remembered with his unforgettable paintings which are mostly a part of the permanent collections at exquisite art museums. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan also expressed his sorrow about Dogancay's death, saying that he has made great contributions to the Turkish art and cultural life.
