Report hails Istanbul as fastest-growing city to emerge from global crisis

Istanbul is the international city showing the fastest recovery from the global economic crisis, according to a new report from the Brookings Institution, a top Washington-based think-tank. According to the report, of 150 metropolitan economies analyzed in the wake of the crisis, Istanbul rose from number 44 in the pre-crisis period to number one now, followed by Shenzhen (China), Lima (Peru) and Singapore. Istanbul has surpassed global economic capitals New York , London and Tokyo in terms of rapid improvements in employment, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, and growth.
