This spring Turkish authorities stopped an arms shipment from Iran to Syria, German daily Suddeutsche Zeitung reported yesterday. The newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the weapons were meant for Hezbollah. The Turkish authorities stopped a convoy of trucks carrying ammunition and weapons in the southeastern province of Kilis on April 30. Iran was reportedly attempting to export the weapons in breach of a UN arms embargo. The Turkish authorities later told a UN Security Council panel about the interception, said the daily.
