Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Najafi and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari yesterday in Baghdad, Iraq. Reportedly, Turkish security units and Kurdish and Arab security and information units also held meetings in which the Kurdish side said that they had suggested the PKK within the knowledge of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi-Kurdish Region’s President Massoud Barzani that it doesn’t lay down arms, but withdraw by one level so that the door to a solution could be opened slightly, but the PKK had a negative approach to the suggestion. As part of his meetings, Sinirlioglu provided information about the size and limit of a possible cross-border operation. He said that a possible land operation would be carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in an area covering five to seven kilometers to be completed in three weeks, in case an agreement isn’t reached with the PKK. Sinirlioglu is expected to submit a detailed operation plan to the Kurdish administration in Erbil today.
