The East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT), one of international tourism's top fairs, yesterday opened its doors in Istanbul with the participation of Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay and Zoheir Garrahah, the tourism minister of the fair's guest country Egypt. Around 3,500 people are expected to visit the 14th annual fair. Underlining that last year Turkey earned $21 billion in revenues and attracted 27 million tourists, Gunay said, "The tourism sector has become more important than such sectors as textiles and autos."
