Tourism revenue ıncreases to $23 billion in 2011

According to tourism statistics which were released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) for the fourth quarter of the year 2011, Turkey earned 10.6 percent more revenue from tourists visiting the country last year compared to a year earlier, and the country's tourism revenue amounting to $20.8 billion in 2010 increased to $23.2 billion in 2011. Reportedly, the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey increased from 33 million to 36.15 million in one year. Furthermore, repercussions of an increase in tourism revenues and number of tourists became evident in tourism expenditures. Accordingly, Turkey's tourism expenditures amounting to $4.83 billion in 2010 increased to $4.98 billion last year. According to official data, each foreign tourist spent $637 on average in Turkey in 2011, which is slightly up from 2010's $630.
