The Turkish women’s national volleyball team clinched third place at the European Championships on Sunday with a hard-fought victory against co-host Italy. Turkey won the game 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 25-27, 25-19, 15-10) after 112 minutes of play. Neslihan Darnel led the Turkish side with 13 points and 12 winning spikes. "My deepest congratulations to the Serbian team for their victory," Turkey Coach Marco Aurelio Motta told a post-game press conference. "They were more stable than we were, but we had our good moments. We began well, spending a lot of mental energy at the beginning of the match. Anyway, I’m proud of my players. This was a very important championship for my team. We managed to beat the teams of Russia and Italy, and I repeat it again – I’m very proud of my team and its performance."
