A statement released by the US Defense Department's Security Cooperation Agency on Monday said that Turkey has requested the sale of 117 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder missiles to strengthen its air defense capability. Having notified the US Congress last week of a possible sale to Turkey, the Agency released the details of the official request. According to the statement, the missiles and the associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support would have an estimated cost of $140 million. The statement reiterated that Turkey is a partner of the US in ensuring peace and stability in the region, recalling that the Turkish Air Forces are modernizing their fighter craft to better support their air defense needs.
