Turkey's Nazmi Avluca crowded Greco-Roman world champ

Nazmi Avluca of Turkey, the 2008 Beijing Olympics Greco-Roman wrestling bronze medalist, won the gold medal in the 84 kilogram division at the 2009 FILA World Wrestling Championship in the Danish city of Herning over the weekend. Paired against Azerbaijani wrestler Shalva Gadabadze in the semifinal, Avluca won the first period 2-0 and the second period 1-0 to advance to the final where he confronted French wrestler Mélonin Noumonvi, who has two bronze medals under his belt in the European Championships. In a dominant position throughout the final, Avluca completed the first period 1-0 and the second period with a score of 3-0. This was the 34-year-old Avluca's second World Championship. Exhilarated by his success in the championship, Avluca took a stroll on the mat with the Turkish flag. Avluca shared his happiness with the head of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, Osman Askin Bak, the national team coaches, his teammates and Turkish nationals in Denmark who enthusiastically supported him during the championships.
