Namik Tan, Turkish Ambassador to Washington, said yesterday that Syria was not only an issue between Turkey and the United States, but also a matter of international community. Speaking at a press conference yesterday prior to Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's visit to the US, Tan said that Syria, as well as Egypt, Iraq, Iran's nuclear program and related developments, Arab Spring, Caucasus, Balkans and the Cyprus issue would be high on the agenda of Davutoglu's contacts in the US. Speaking about human rights violations in Syria, Tan said, "Within the framework of international society's reactions to the Syrian regime which violates international values, we are there. We, as a part of international society, have been holding consultations with our important ally so that these reactions are carried out in accordance with international law and norms." Stating that there are also speculations that Turkey would be involved in a military intervention in Syria, Tan said that Turkey didn't have such plans whatsoever.
