For the past few years Turkish exporters have been looking into Indonesia, a potentially huge market with its population of 240 million, according to Zekeriya Mete, head of the Istanbul Exporters' Association. Speaking this week at the Turkish Export Products Fair in Jakarta, where 33 companies are showing their wares, he added, "Firms which make flour, chocolate, candy, nuts and cleaning products are taking part in the fair. Turkey earns $250-300 million (annually) from exports to Indonesia, but this isn't enough. Interest in Turkish products in foreign markets has risen. Products certified Halal (a Muslim food code) help Turkey in countries like Indonesia. As a Muslim country, Turkey can easily enter such markets."
