After getting close to Turkish-Israeli reconciliation, over one year since the deadly raid on the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara aid ship, these efforts were reportedly derailed due to Israel's last-minute refusal to make an official apology for the eight Turkish deaths during the raid. Talks between Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu and Israeli Deputy Premier Moshe Ya'alon are said to have reached an agreement when Israel agreed to issue an official apology and pay the raid's victims compensation, before the Israeli premier reversed course over fears of harming his fragile coalition government.
