Turkish state theater drew 1.7 mln in 2010-11 season

The Turkish State Theatre in May closed the curtain on its 2010-2011 season, which sold some 1.7 million tickets, the Anatolia news agency reported on Wednesday. With the 2011-2012 season set to start on Oct. 1, the theater this week touted its activities, tours and preparations for the year to come, as well as its aims to provide an educational platform for the arts both inside Turkey and abroad, promote understanding between cultures, boost public interest in the theater, raise the status of Turkish theater, and present the beauty of the Turkish language. Founded in 1949, the Turkish State Theater has been a member of the European Theater Convention since 2007.
