Vasiliu makes a historic confession

In a statement to the Greek news agency, George Vasiliu, former leader of the Greek Cypriot administration, said that Greek Cypriots have been unable to utilize its EU membership for solving the Cyprus problem. "As Turkey wasn’t ready for a solution, our EU membership was unable to accelerate the process of finding a solution to the Cyprus issue and we failed to maintain the pressure that we had to put. We have used our accession to the union in order to veto the progress of Turkey’s EU membership bid, but I believe we will not be able to use this until a solution is found to the Cyprus issue," Vasiliu said.
